What's Good Movement Family? The Blessed Freedom Fund!!!
This is Marcy DePina talking and the following statement is my own personal opinion....
You may or may not know that last year at the end of the year Tem. Blessed, a dedicated youth worker, activist and father was assaulted by three Massachusetts State Troopers while on his way to perform for the Cape Verdean Student Association at UMASS Dartmouth.
Although Tem. tried to explain that he was going to perform, the police were not trying to hear it and they proceeded to beat him down without cause. He was arrested and is currently being charged with "assault and battery on a police officer" and "resisting arrest". Even though Tem. has never been in trouble with the law and has done nothing but dedicated his life to uplifiting and empowering youth in the city of New Bedford, the judge refused to drop the case stating that he "Had faith in the legal system". Now the case is going to trial and Tem.'s future is being placed in the hands of United States justice system.
Despite his many contributions to the City of New Bedford his character is being defamed and he is being referred to as a "rapper with an extensive criminal record".
PEOPLE....XENTI...this has got to stop! How many of our brothers and sisters have been victims of police brutality? How many of us have been victims of racial profiling and what I am calling "hip-hop profiling"?
We have got to rally and support our brother Tem. in this fight for justice. As a mother of a son I am disgusted when I think that a father of two young children who has NEVER been involved in crime can be convicted of crime when he is the victim!
There is power and strength in unity people...
On Saturday, May 12, 2007, come out and show your support for Tem. Blessed at the Blessed Freedom Fundraiser from 4-8 at Gallery X. Tem. has filed a Civil Suit to counteract this injustice and legal fees are mounting... Show a brother some love because the next time it might be your own brother, father, cousin or son...
Peace,
Marcy
